Just stuff – A hiatus of sorts

So a few months ago, something happened.  Something happened that left me feeling violated and down in the dumps.  Much of my equipment was stolen on a shoot.  It’s an interesting thing when something like this happens.   Although I wasn’t hurt, no one was hurt in fact, I couldn’t shake the feeling of emptiness.  I know..I know…it’s just stuff.  That’s what my mom told me over and over again as I cried on the phone with her.  But it’s not that it was “just stuff”.  It was my stuff.  Stuff I had purchased with my blood, sweat and tears.  I can honestly visualize every single purchase I made of my equipment.  I am a frugal person and I save and scrimp to get the things I need.  Sometimes I buy things I don’t need, but I love to try different things on shoots.  So some of the things that were stolen were items I must have to shoot a wedding and others were luxuries.  But still all of it, my stuff.

With passing time, I’ve gotten over it some.  I’ve purchased new equipment. (Don’t worry, I won’t show up at your wedding with any less equipment! Maybe just some different, newer things!)  I still long for my things.  Even though I have replaced most of it…most of it with the same “stuff” I still can’t help but miss my original things.  I am a sentimental person through and through.  So somewhere out there, someone has some of my lenses, lights, business cards (oh no, they left those strewn everywhere further down the road so that I could find them and know that whoever took my stuff had no intention of ever contacting me.  That was heartbreaking).

For a few months, I couldn’t bring myself to shoot (Thank goodness wedding season was over!) But I turned down some really awesome things, because the depression was fierce.  It really was.  Thankfully wedding season is quickly approaching again, and with that some new purchases, have helped bring me back from the dark!  (You won’t keep me down, you dishonorable hack of a person!)

So sorry the blog has been asleep.  It too was in a funk, but not without reason!

And well because everything looks better with a photo…
