Michael & Shadi | McMaster University, Hamilton Ontario | Engagement Session

I travelled to McMaster University in Hamilton on a cold, rainy Sunday.  It was the Sunday before Super Storm Sandy made her way to the East Coast.  We were all ready feeling her wrath although somewhat mildly.  I woke up to no rain, but the clouds were definitely looming and rain was definitely coming.  It wasn’t a question of “if” it was a question of “when”.  Sure enough as I hit Mississauga, the rain started pelting down on my car.  I was worried.  What kind of session could we have with the rain beating so hard.  I quickly called Michael and Shadi and asked them to grab someone who could hold an umbrella over my gear! 🙂 They graciously complied.

As luck (good fortune) would have it, the rain subsided to a mild drizzle when I finally arrived at the John Hodgins Engineering Building on campus.  Perched in front of this building is an Iron Ring, also known as the Steel Ring.  This ring is worn by many Canadian trained engineers and serves as a symbol to remind them of their obligation and ethics to their chosen profession.   The ring is given to each graduate in a ceremony known as “The Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer”.   Outside of the Engineering Building at McMaster, sits a statue with a metal ring prominently a top the cement slab, serving as a reminder to students what they are striving for.

As much as this Iron Ring symbolizes a degree in engineering, I believe for Michael and Shadi it also symbolizes their love for each other.  As it was in this place, working towards this “Iron Ring” that Michael and Shadi first laid eyes on each other, and it is here where their love story began.  So in paying homage to their roots in love, they decided McMaster University on Campus would be the best place for their engagement shoot.  Starting right in front, where the Iron Ring resides.

Although I have been to McMaster University before to shoot, I was treated with a tour from Shadi’s brother who once attended there as well, as he told me all the “must-have” photo location ops!  The grounds of McMaster are beautiful.  They also do weddings there.  So if you live in Hamilton (even if you don’t) and are thinking about locations, consider Mac as an option.  It truly is gorgeous!

Meet Michael:

I asked him to GQ it out, and here’s what  I got…a valiant effort wouldn’t you say? 🙂

Meet Shadi:  (She didn’t need me to tell her to GQ it out, she just has a natural flare! Sorry Michael!!) LOL

Together they make Michael and Shadi, destined to meet and fall in love.  Destined to be wed this coming February.

Shadi & Michael, I had a blast, through the rain and cold, you two kept smiling and never once complained.  You are the epitome of true love.  Thank you for allowing me to be a part of it!

They are the most beautiful things that I have ever seen. What can make a mother happier than watching those pictures with all love, happiness and honesty beneath them? Thank you Shadi and Michael Jon for all you gave me. Congratulations for your nice, wise and smart choice of place for your engagement pictures. Thank you Elaine for saving this happiness in such a nice way. Thank you Saman for helping Elaine.

Well, now that wedding season is coming to a close, I can start to focus on other types of photography.  Like Newborns!  Here is baby K.  Isn’t she a sweetie!?!  I watched all the little girls out trick or treating in their long flowing gowns and kepty saying to my boys, I should have had a girl.  They laughed of course cause they know I wouldn’t trade them in for the world! But I love pink, I love all the clothing options that you can have for baby girls.  Boys clothes can be boring…sweat pants with some dinosaurs on it and that’s it! You should see this little one’s closet.  INCREDIBLE!  Her mom & dad did an excellent job of organizing it and making a sweet little nursery for their precious baby girl.

Mom looked gorgeous and so very happy.  Labour was a cinch.  I think if I’m correct it was like 2 hours. YA THAT’S RIGHT 2 HOURS!!! Ummm…I think my shortest labour was 5 hours for my second.  I’ll take 2 any day of the week!

Black Creek Pioneer Village Wedding Photography | Keith & Jenni

Beautiful Wedding at Black Creek Pioneer Village

It was just a couple of days before Super Storm Sandy was scheduled to hit the East Coast.  It was raining, cold and wet.  But as the saying goes, the show must go on!  Keith and Jenni’s wedding continued even through the rain and wind.  What started out as a dark, dreary day, turned into a glorious day even though the sun never peaked it’s head out, not once! It was a gorgeous day because on this day Keith and Jenni pledged their love for each other in front of family and friends at Black Creek Pioneer Village .

So while Storm Sandy was blowing her way into Canada, in a quaint church built in 1856 called Fisherville Church, the guests started to arrive in horse drawn carriages.

The groom and his groomsmen awaited the arrival of the bride.  Jenni looked gorgeous.  She shed some tears of happiness just before walking down the aisle.

The church was filled with people, but Keith only had eyes for Jenni.

Keith (and now Jenni’s) niece was so well-behaved through the service in her cute dress, and just like a toddler, one second I had her attention, and then just like that, she quickly forgot all about me.

After the ceremony we braved it outdoors for some more photographs.

The minister who presided over the wedding was a hoot! I’m serious. I need to get his name for you all, because seriously he was light hearted and so funny!  I believe if I’m quoting him correctly here, that he said to Keith that in order to make sure his wife stays happy, among some other not so important things, he told Keith that one of the ways in which he can help to keep his wife happy is to make sure she always…ALWAYS has enough Shoes! Yes, I’m serious! Men, are you listening??? SHOES!! They may just be more important to us then jewellery.

To be honest we didn’t last very long outside.  The wedding party did their best for me to “grin and bare” it, but dang it all, it was freezing and the light was quickly fading! So thank you wedding party for humouring me for at least some outdoor formal shots!  We couldn’t have as much frolick and  fun as I normally would like to have, but we still made gorgeous photographs with the time we had!

We headed back inside for the reception where it was warmer, and where friends, family, wine, food, cake, a train and even Spiderman were waiting!

Now Keith and Jenni both came up to me at separate times in the evening to let me know that Keith has a photograph of this cake topper on his fridge.  Hmmm….Well Keith, now you can take the photograph down, because you now have the REAL thing! 🙂

Keith & Jenni, thank you so much for allowing me the honour of being a part of your special day.
